Remember this post
well take a look at this

Long-term Food

So on Monday for FHE we had a Preparedness lesson and talked to the girls about why we store extra food. Barett asked Maren how she thought we would get food if Daddy didn't have money from his job to buy it. She said "the stores would just have to make it free." Only if life were that simple. After some explaining, she understood why we keep a 3-month supply of food that we rotate and why we would be storing a year's supply of food. So for our activity we headed to Costco, we bought our wheat and a few other things to top of our 3-month supply.
(we only got a few strange looks, but I'm sure our fellow Utahns knew what we were doing, right?)

Then, on Tuesday I had completed the calculations of most everything we would need from the cannery and Barett said that he could go and do all the canning. What a man!!! So now we are up to pretty much a complete long-term food supply. The sweet ladies at the Springville Cannery asked Barett if we had spices, because the food would need spices. He said... Uh, yeah. So the last few things are spices, dried onions, carrots, potatoes & apples. I'm not exactly sure how to calculate amounts for those, but that is what I'm working on next.

We are also going to build a really good complete first aid kit, with plenty of medicine, bandages, creams etc. etc., to last a year. All I have to say is thank heaven for Tax Returns and for inspired leaders of the Church!
